Application and Admissions

Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School is an International Baccalaureate World School.  We offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to students in Grades 11 and 12.  

IB Information for Students Entering High School in September 2025

IB Information Night is on Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 pm. Families of grade 8 students who are interested in applying to the grade 9 pre-IB program for September 2026 are highly encouraged to attend this evening. There is no need to register for the event. Information from this evening will be posted on our website on Friday, October 17th. 

Please note that we do not recommend any special preparation or study for the admissions process and cannot share any information about what the application process will look like.


 2026-2027 Application Eligibility for Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School's IB Programme:

  • Live in York Region within Williams' IB catchment area at time of application (We cannot accept applications form outside of the area, this includes families who are planning to move into the area in future). Please check the boundaries at https://schoollocator.yrdsb.ca/
  • Be a student currently in Grade 8
  • Additional requirements will be shared in the fall of 2026

Registration Notes:

The York Region District School Board IB Programme application is completed centrally for all York Region IB Schools through the EDSBY platform. The central application is for programmes offered at Alexander Mackenzie High School, Bayview Secondary School, The Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School, Maple High School and Milliken Mills High School.

  • During the application process the YRDSB IB school serving your child's home address will be identified. Regrettably, we are not able to consider applicants who live outside of Williams' IB boundaries.
  • Please be sure to completed the application during the application window. The application window is currently closed.
  • We are not able to accept late applications.
  • We do not recommend any special preparation or study for the admissions process.
  • Students who are in Grade 9 or 10 and who are interested in the IB Programme, are encouraged to reach out to the IB Coordinator for information about the waiting list.
