Introduction
Thank you for your interest in the Dr. G. W. Williams Secondary School's International Baccalaureate Programme.
IB Candidates in the York Region District School Board begin by taking enriched core courses in their Grade 9 and 10 years, and by fast tracking some of their core courses to help them prepare for the demands of their IB course work and examinations. Students meet the requirements of the IB Diploma in Grade 11 and Grade 12. Please note that we are a full Diploma Programme and do not offer Subject Certificates.
The IB Programme and Notes on Course Selection
Students in our IB Programme earn both the IB Diploma and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
All IB Candidates participate in the following IB Core components:
Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) Experiences
Theory of Knowledge Course (ToK)
Extended Essay
Currently, Dr. G. W. Williams Secondary School offers the following course of study:
HL=Higher Level
SL=Standard Level
- Group One: NHL Language A Language and Literature (English)
- Group Two: SL Language B French
- Group Three: HL Psychology or Business Management or Global Politics
- Group Four: SL Biology or Physics
- Group Five: SL Analysis and Approaches (Math)
- Group Six: HL Visual Arts or Music or Chemistry or another course from group three
It is important to recognize that we will do our best to accommodate our students' course selection in all grade levels but we cannot guarantee that students will receive their first choice selections. While the courses listed above are offered, courses will only run if there is sufficient student demand.
Fees:
Formal registration to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme includes the payment of fees. The total cost for each year of the IB Programme (grade 11 and 12) is $1545.00, this is in addition to the payments made in grade 9 ($250) & 10 ($350). The Programme fee includes IB Programme fee, payment of exam fees, external assessment marking fees, and the associated costs of running the IB Diploma Programme.
All fees can be paid through your School Cash Online account. Please reach out to us if this payment structure is a barrier to your child’s participation and we will make an alternative payment arrangement for you to ensure everyone’s ability to access the program. A receipt to indicate registration into the program and the administrative fee will be issued once the process has been completed. Please note, the program and fees cannot be used for income tax purposes and fees are non-refundable.

Transportation:
Please be advised Dr. G. W. Williams Secondary School does not provide busing for students in the IB programme.
